Lords of Madness for Original Edition beta

I proudly present you the Beta version of Original Edition (OE) Lords of Madness D&D Miniatures expansion set, but, first, let me introduce myself, my revision team and our “modus operandi”. This is the very first time I write here, so you can imagine I am a bit exited!

My name is Flavio Damasco and I am the lead designer of this project. Under the supervision of Peter Scott, I worked really hard with my team and the other friends of the OE project in order to create some balanced and fun miniatures. My team had already collaborated in other revised D&D Miniatures sets such as Player Handbook Heroes 1, Legenary Evils andDangerous Delves.

We worked this way: first of all we had every single existing stat card ordered by cost in a single huge stack and we studied each of them. With this background material we started creating the Lords of Madness profiles by comparing them to similar costed minis and/or similar class/race/type/ability creatures. But most of all, we took inspiration by the various 3.5 Manuals and Handbooks we collected (around 70-80 volumes) in which we looked for the “true version” of every mini of this set. This method granted quite an accurate result in creating balanced stats. We had a powerful brainstorming among us and we tried to create new and interesting profiles. I can say that this job took more than 60 hours of work for my group only.

After this step, we submitted our product to the other guys of the OE team and their evaluations. After some debates and modifications we all agreed on this beta version.

Summarizing, the main theme of this expansion is the attempt to create new pieces, while sometimes exhuming old and forgotten spells and abilities. For example you will find the “mount” rules are used again! On the other hand you will also discover some “spoilers” of future revised set (take a look at Yeenoghu!). We tried to bring past and future together in this set!

In conclusion: we hope you’ll have a great deal of fun! While we prepare the final version, please, discuss your point of view on the beta version of Lords of Madness stats with us and leave your feedback in the forums. And if you submit your feedback before september 30 2011, we'll take it into account while we make the final release, which is slated for mid-october.
